1965 429 Inlet manifold leak
« on: June 03, 2014, 12:11:53 PM »
Hi All,

Have a leaking exhaust sound in the Fleetwood, have taken the car to an exhaust specialist and they suggest it is coming from beneath the inlet manifold. Can anyone suggest the fix for this? Thanks

Have had three 429's and all had a similar issues.  My 66 429 convertible, first time found to be the exhaust manifold distorted and cracked. Had to replace one and had the other faced to ensure flat surface. Later had a similar issue on the 66 Fleetwood and that was a simple flange gasket. Could be many things but leaking inlet manifold doesn't sound right to me if you have an exhaust "leak". You should be able to feel the hot exhaust gas wherever it's coming from! If unsure, I would get a second opinion.

Hi all, I believe it's quite common for the exhaust crossover (pre-heat) in the inlet manifold to crack.
As Murray suggests, you'll hopefully be able to feel where it's coming from.

Cheers,
Arnold.
