tow bar for 60 cadillac
« on: August 21, 2018, 11:36:05 AM »
Hi
Has anyone had a towbar fitted/made for a 60 cadillac.
I want it to tow a vintage caravan.  So I need to be able to remove the tongue when not towing
I live in Melbourne if anyone can suggest a place.

I cannot assist in Melbourne, as I usually make my own.

Not a difficult task, but any professional fabricator of tow bars will have to make it to suit the current laws, regarding tongue weights, etc, plus, if your car is still using the original red tail lights as brake and indicators, then the harness wiring for the brake and indicators will have to from the front of the vehicle, isolated from the rear lights, so that you can use the trailer lights to meet current laws.

If you simply cut into the rear light wiring, for the indicators, you will have the trailer lights doing the same as the car, which is not legal.

Even though the vehicle is allowed to have red indicators, as it is built before 1969, the trailer has to have amber indicators.
