Whitewall Tyres

Glad to see the new website is up and running. A question for everybody out there:
What do people recommend for cleaning/taking care of whitewall tyres?

I had an old Merc with whitewalls that I always seemed to scrape on a gutter - I used Jif and warm water, the whitewalls were damaged more by the concrete than the Jif, it worked really well.

This is my first post on this website, so I hope I do it right.
I clean my whitewalls with a soapy-steel wool pad (like Steelo). Don't worry, scrub the hell out of them... you'll never scrub throught the white stuff. They'll look like new.

G'day John,

I too have a troublke keeping my Whitewalls clean, and the best I have found is Brakleen.

What I do is spray the Brakleen on a rag and immediately wipe it only on the white part of the tyre.   But, don't get it on any paintwork.

I find that the rag must be constantly changed as once it is dirty, it doesn't clean as well.   But, it doesn't take long to wipe aroung the circumference of the whitewall.

Hi John,
We've had whitewalls for years on our cars and have always used Jif and a scrubbing brush dipped in water.  Rinse off with clean water.  It takes about 1 minute to do each wheel.  This works perfectly for us.

In the same vain, I noticed GT Radials make white wall tyres now. They seem like they could be a cheaper alternative to Coker and other specialist brands. Can anybody share their opinions on good brands and best value for money?
