Shipping costs from US

Hi All
I have recently purchased a the stainless Hood Trim for my 59 on eBay. Purchase price was cheap but the shipping quoted is $200 US dollars from New York to Melbourne. Any one knows if I am getting ripped off?

Depends how long the trim is Rob. Also depends on how fast the shipping is. So hard to answer without those details, but what choice do you have? You COULD argue with the guy and have him "acidentally" damage it for you whilst packing, or you could just grin and bare it.

You're absolutely right Dale, there's a lot of factors that determine "Shipping Costs", I bought a passenger side front window for my '59 Fleetwood, the cost of the glass itself wasn't bad, but the shipping costs amounted to almost triple what the cost of the glass was.

When you add up, insurance, weight, packing (the more fragile the item, the higher the packing cost)......and the type of shipping, ie: Expedited Door To Door Air Freight, etc, it can get expensive. But as you rightly point out, sometimes there's no other choice !

The trim is 1200 mm long and 140mm at most but because it is longer then 1 metre US postal will not ship. Has to UPS or DHL. Also ups will not ship by sea only air just to sting you more.

At 1.2m long, I guess $200 sounds plausible to me. I think you gotta pay the man.

Well, packing it inside a Plastic Drain Tube 2" or even 4" would be the safest way.   Wrap it in foam, and glue on end caps.

And, UPS will probably have to be the best way to get it here.

Since USPS stopped using Surface Postage outside USA, the world is at the mercy of UPS, etc.

The only good part is that you got the piece cheap, and hopefully, when you open the package, you will be able to read some classified advertisements from the US Auto scene.

You did ask that the seller wraps it up using the latest newspaper pages of the Auto For Sales?   I always do.
