Wanted: Cadillac body for project
« on: November 09, 2010, 08:48:37 PM »
Hello Caddy forum,

I am looking for a complete cadillac body if possible including guards, hood, bumpers, grille, lights etc (or just front or back section) from the 50's or early 60's for a project (not a car restoration project). Would perfer a 59 if possible (wishful thinking... but you never know...). Does anyone have something like that? Or know of something sitting in a wrecking yard or paddock possibly just waiting for me? Any leads appreciated. Looking to try and pick up something here in Australia.

Cheers

Do you know how much he wanted for it?

I read recently on the Customs website that we can't import rolling parts cars any more. They must have the engine/trans, wheels, and axles removed before they can be classified as a "parts car". Kinda sucks, I was hoping to eventually find a complete 59 front clip and rear quarters.

Sounds like the Customs have finally realised that many people in the past have been getting away with "murder".

But, this has been going on for years as I can recall a bloke trying to get a big truck into Australia, and pulled it to pieces and put the parts into two containers.   He got caught when Customs opened up both containers and saw the chassis in one, and the cab in the other, and when investigated, there was nothing missing from either to make up one complete vehicle.   If the Chassis had been cut in half, then he would have been okay.

There's still an opening though, it just says that the motor, trans, wheels and axles can't be transported on the same ship as the rest of the car.

Yeah confirmed, thanks Dan. He also said he's got a bunch of other '59 parts (and cars, partially disassembled) that he's trying to get rid of.
