1961 Cadillac globes/ bulbs
« on: July 13, 2019, 10:57:18 PM »
Hey, anyone know where I can get the 53 globes for my 61 Cadillac transmission selector in Sydney ? I tried American auto parts / rare spares at prospect they had no clue they said 53 is not a part number but thatís what the manual says.  Any help would be greatly appreciate
Thanks
Chris

G'day Chris,

Do you have the old bulb out?   Can you take a picture of it and post it, as I am pretty sure that I might have something that might fit, as I never throw anything out that could be useful.

Simply going by numbers that are in a Shop Manual here in Australia don't really mean much, unless there is a cross-referencing system available.

I am looking at a feature in a Ford Publication which shows the various globes for the American Fords from 1963 to '65, and there is a vast number of different globes, and each one includes a time-life for different globes.

Here are two that I found.

The left one is a 2 Watt globe.   Not sure what the Right one is, but should be about the same.

Either one should do the trick.

Cost to you would be postage from Lindisfarne.

How many do you need?

I have more of the silver base ones, plus some with longer glass.

On the base of the Silver one is the words - FUJI 12V 2W

Bruce.

PS.   More than one will seriously deplete my "stash", so they might have to cost you.

Chris,

Actually, the No. 53 globe is only 1.7 Watts according to my bulb chart, and its' mate, the 1445, which is the brass one in my pictures is rated at 1.9 Watts.   The 53 has a working life of 1,000 hours, and the 1445 is 2,000 hours.   Both are listed as being at 1 Candle Power.

And that is about right for a Transmission Shift Selector Light.

The Ford Part Number for the 53 globe is C4SZ-13466-A.

What are you actually looking for, as there are many differing globes.   And the higher wattage globes will have the larger base, as the higher the wattage, the hotter the globe becomes.

You wouldn't want to use a 4 Watt globe in the gear shift indicator socket.
